At APIS Seoul, we are fortunate enough to have a wide variety of 3D printers for our students to use. Printers are located in The HUB and Elementary Maker Space.
Students are encouraged to utilize these technologies regularly, both in dedicated digital design courses as well as in more traditional classroom settings. By integrating these technologies into classrooms, students are able to learn in a more hands-on environment.
APIS Seoul is the proud home of one of the world's first direct-to-consumer laser cutting machines, The Glowforge Laser Cutter and Engraver. The system uses a high powered laser to create intricate designs, both cut and etched. This system is easy to use for people of all ages and allows APIS students to bring their creations to life in tangible materials like acrylic, wood, and leather.
Our Robotics team proudly uses the Glowforge to create component parts form several of their creations, most notably in their laser cut drone designs.
APIS Seoul has recently obtained a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) Router for our growing Fabrication lab. These machines use spinning router bits to carve materials like hard wood, plywood, and foam into intricate designs, all directed by a computer generated design.
We have included this machine into our collection of digital fabrication technologies to further expose students to the world of digital design and fabrication. In doing so, students will gain valuable experience in bringing their large-scale creations to life. With a CNC, APIS students are able to create a wide variety of objects, like pieces of furniture, sculptures, maps, and many others.
Another Digital Fabrication tool housed at APIS is the Cricut Explore Air 2 Vinyl cutter. This machine, like many other of our tools, usese an xy axis to cut 2D images and designs into thin materials. The tool traces your design with a rotarty cutting tool onto your desired material and quickly creates beautiful and intricate designs.
The most common use of this machine is to create custom stickers that can be applied to a variety of surfaces. This machine also cuts paper, leather, and other thin materials.
